Challenges of Nations

What concerns are on the minds of people of a country and what do they feel are the most challenging issues that need to be resolved?

CHALLENGES OF NATIONS is an international study to determine the most urgent issues to be resolved in the respective countries. In the first years, the study was carried out in European countries - it now encompasses 24 countries in America, Africa and Asia as well.

Challenges of Nations is an international study conducted by the GfK Verein (since February 2018 Nuremberg Institute for Market Decisions) once a year in Germany since 1990 and in Europe since 2001.

In  2016 the study includes 24 countries: Austria, Belgium, Brazil, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Iran, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, Nigeria, Poland, Russia, Spain, South Africa, South Korea, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, the UK, the USA, and, for the first time this year, Mexico and the Philippines in the current study on the most pressing issues that a country is facing.

The survey is based on the following open-ended question which is asked every year: “What do you believe are the most pressing challenges that need to be solved today in [respective country]?” There are no restrictions on the responses given by those surveyed, and several issues can be mentioned.
