Consumer climate by demographic groups

Key Insights during lunch break

July 15th, 2025 at 1:00 pm CET (online)

Speakers
Rolf Bürkl, Head of Consumer Climate, NIM
Dr. Anja Bauer, Senior Researcher - Consumer Climate, NIM

Topic
Consumer sentiment in Germany is not developing equally for everyone. While some groups are becoming more optimistic again about income, the economy, and major purchases, others remain noticeably more cautious.
In our upcoming Consumer Climate Lunch, we take a differentiated look at the sociological differences behind the overall figures:

➡️ Current consumer climate trends:
What do the latest data show? How have income expectations, propensity to buy, and saving behavior developed recently?
➡️ Reactions to inflation, uncertainty, and crises:
Which income groups, generations, and household types are under the greatest economic pressure, and which are proving relatively resilient?
➡️ Drivers of the consumer climate recovery:
Which income groups, generations, and household types are contributing most to the overall improvement in consumer climate?

Use your lunch break to gain compact, well-founded insights into the latest developments and the sociological drivers behind consumer climate:

About the NIM Consumer Climate powered by GfK
The GfK Consumer Climate survey, which is being conducted regularly since 1974 and monthly 1980, is regarded as an important indicator of German consumer behavior and a guiding light for Germany's economic development. The Consumer Climate is based on about 2,000 monthly consumer interviews that are conducted on behalf of the European Commission.
In April 2026, as part of a reorganization of responsibilities, NIM also takes over all public relations activities. From that point on, the survey will be published under the name “NIM Consumer Climate powered by GfK”, marking the full organizational return of the Consumer Climate survey to NIM, which was responsible for the study until 1984 (then known as GfK Verein).
